Cleanse, Day 11

Yesterday was a bustling day of activity and prep for the week ahead. We got our computers set up in the studio space with air conditioning (just in case it is a hot one), ejoyed a lovely art sale with work by Trish Grantham, Michael Paulus, Briana Linden and Clara Seasholtz - all inspiring and fun people to see! I also had a brief visit with my parents, which is always a treat.
Today  begins the first day of a completely new experience for me - fasting. At some point yesterday, I realized that I couldn’t wait. Partially, I am excited because the fast represents the highest peak of our cleanse - which gives one a send of making it. Also, the fast is basically the end of the program, save a few days of slowly returning to normal.

Throughout the last few days, I have seen my body pH go from acidic to alkaline and then take a sharp dive down to acidic again. This was starting to get a bit frightening, as I know I’ve been detoxing quite a bit. We’ve been taking our pH measurements from a strip put on our tongue and also doing toungue scraping each day. I realized that the sharp drop to acidic occurred as the released toxins on my tongue was increasing. I thought perhaps I was reading the pH of this, so I switched order and walla - back to a normal pH. What a relief! Why care about pH?  The body is naturally alkaline (6.4 pH reading is about normal with tongue testing). When the body has a 5.5 or 5.8 pH, it is quite acidic. This can cause decreased energy and an increase in illness; the body does not repair damaged cells as well in this enviroment. There are also studies suggest that tumors function better in an acidic environment. This makes an alkaline body an significant (and obtainable) health goal - obtainable, for instance, through cleansing and eating alkalinizing foods.

One last note for the day: I just noticed that our naturopath, Dr. Arial, has started her blog. With all of the help and encouragement she has given to Ray and me, I am looking forward to seeing what she has to say!
